“‘It’s not even real gold anyway.’”

November 22, 2011

A Wen-Do instructor writes:

I heard this story from a woman who took a Basic Wen-Do class in Toronto.  It had happened to a friend of a friend of hers, who lived in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

This woman was on her way to a party, and was wearing a lot of gold jewellery.  The friend she was with was also wearing a lot of jewellery, but hers was costume jewellery, not real gold.  On the way, two men carrying guns and knives rode up on a motorcycle, forced their vehicle to stop, and ordered the women to hand over their jewellery.

The first woman took off her jewellery and threw it on the ground, saying, “Take it!  What do I care?  It’s not even real gold anyway.”  The robbers believed her, left her jewellery lying on the ground, and demanded the other woman’s jewellery, which she gave them.  They rode off with all the costume jewellery in their possession, leaving the real gold on the ground.  After they had left, the two woman picked up the real gold jewellery.  I hope they felt pretty proud of themselves for having been so quick-thinking!
